Hello friends of Playa del Carmen!
My name is Alain Stevez, a Mexican resident in Playa del Carmen for 10 years. I´m a professional writer and since I came to Playa I have been tutoring Spanish to people who come to visit our city from other

countries.
As you know, many of the languages schools in our community are not exactly what a foreigner resident who works and live in Playa really needs. Their study plans, fees and schedules are not designed accurately for a long-term study purpose.
I have many friends from the USA, Canada and many countries in Europe who have lived in Playa for years but are still treated as tourists because their Spanish abilities are under developed. Most of them work with local tourism and often times loose good business opportunities because they are not able to understand the language fluently.
This can become a problem when needing to communicate with locals whom only speak Spanish, for instance when going to the supermarket, restaurants, gas stations or transportation. That is why I decided to create my own tutoring classes, specially designed to residents who really need Spanish or will love to learn it.
Why a Spanish School is not the best idea for residents?
- Their prices are based in short-term studies from $28 US to $113 US per lesson!
- Teachers just receive from $50 to $70 pesos for each hour. Not a lot of motivation!
- The schools business is to keep their students as long as they can. More lessons the student needs = more money for them.
- They charge you for advance, they choose the teacher for you and no refunds are made for days missed due to holidays.
- You need to study at their place and following their schedule.
- There are not weekend classes for people who just can study on Saturday or Sunday because their jobs.
- Teachers normally just repeat the books lessons and do not have experiences on business, legal or professional vocabulary.
What do I offer?
- As a 25 years writing experience, two national prices in Literature and 3 books published I know Spanish language for sure.
- I have 10 years teaching Spanish as a second language and my ex students would love to corroborate my skills. Don’t be afraid to ask.
